Impacts of Climate Change on Health

Climate is the condition of weather over a long period of time. It is changing very rapidly with the passage of time due to human activities and natural disasters. Climate change is the single biggest health threat facing humanity. Climate impacts are already harming health via air pollution, disease, extreme weather events, forced displacement, pressures on mental health, and increased hunger and poor nutrition in places where people cannot grow or find sufficient food. The major mosquito-borne infectious diseases that have been reported to be affected by global warming include malaria, dengue fever, and tick-borne encephalitis.

Climate change has negative impacts on health. Natural disasters are one of the major causes of temperature rising e.g., volcanic eruptions due to which there is a greater increase in temperature which further leads to global warming. Floods and droughts are also major natural disasters due to which human health faces a crisis. Due to floods, infectious diseases spread very rapidly, crops also get affected due to floods which in turn become a cause of food scarcity in the world. Due to global warming, people are suffering from diseases like dehydration, burning of the skin, etc. Floods and droughts are also major natural disasters due to which human health faces a crisis.

Human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels and cutting of trees, cause an increase in CO2 concentration in the earth and have an increasing influence on the climate and the Earth's temperature. Due to the increased amount of CO2, people are having respiratory disorders like asthma, and influenza. For the reduction of CO2, a solar system must be used. This adds huge quantities of greenhouse gases to those naturally present in the atmosphere, increasing the greenhouse effect and global warming. Climate change affects the social and environmental determinants of health like clean air, safe drinking water, sufficient food, and secure shelter. Between 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause approximately 250 000 additional deaths per year, from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and heat stress. Due to the increased amount of CO2, people are having respiratory disorders like asthma, and influenza. For the reduction of CO2, a solar system must be used.

Humans are the major cause of climate change because they are causing pollution like water pollution, air pollution, land pollution, etc. Due to water pollution, humans are getting waterborne diseases like hepatitis, diarrhea, and cholera. Water pollution also causes water scarcity on the earth. The crisis in human health due to climate change can be overcome through mitigation strategies like the use of alternative ways of fossil fuels, and planting more trees instead of cutting them. If mitigation strategies will not be adopted, the diseases like anthrax, antibiotic-resistant infections, cryptosporidiosis, dengue, fungal diseases like valley fever and histoplasmosis, and giardiasis. For a healthy life, a healthy environment is required.
